About LY Admissions
Laurence Yu, Johns Hopkins '28
I am a rising junior at the Johns Hopkins University pursuing double majors in Economics and International Studies, as well as a Master’s in International Relations through an accelerated BA/MA program at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
My approach to college admissions stems from my own experience as a high school senior. Successful applicants are no longer the students with the highest grades or test scores, but those who were able to construct a compelling and authentic narrative in their application that demonstrates their potential to top universities.
Through a narrative-driven application, I was able to gain admission to a top-10 ranked university despite academic metrics below the school's median. I have since applied the same principles to help students secure acceptances to Ivy League schools and other elite institutions.

Freshman/Sophomore Consulting

Successful applicants to top universities typically started laying the groundwork for their success early in their high school career. Starting and planning early for college admissions provides a significant advantage, as laying a strong foundation early in high school allows students to build a competitive profile for college applications with much more clarity. During this phase, counseling will involve selecting courses, finding relevant extracurricular opportunities, and helping students find meaningful activities aligned with their genuine interests.
Junior-Year Consulting
$1200 $600/year
Junior year is the last time to meaningfully prepare before you apply to university in the fall of senior year, the preparation during this period will directly affect the quality of your application and confidence heading into the final year of high school. At LY Admissions, our services will focus on using this year to build a fully developed competitive admissions profile and to prepare effectively for the college application process in the senior year. This will involve prioritizing course rigor for 11th-grade classes, targeting standout summer opportunities, and laying the groundwork for a compelling student narrative that will demonstrate their authentic self to college admissions panels.
Senior-Year Consulting
$1500 $750/year
Senior-year consulting encompasses full, comprehensive support for students in each and every aspect of the college admissions process. Counseling will involve an intimate working relationship with the student to first determine best-fit colleges, construct a strong personal narrative, and create a strategic application plan to maximize success. This includes extensive support for drafting and refining essays, forming robust Common App activity lists, preparation for admissions interviews, and a complete application review to ensure that students are able to demonstrate their full potential in the college application process. Especially when application deadlines draw near at the end of the fall semester, I will be available to aid and assist students as they finalize their applications.
